Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, did nothing wrong by returning to his former political camp, insisting that political disagreements should not be viewed as offences.
Wike, who spoke on Tuesday after inspecting ongoing road projects in Abuja, said Fubara's decision to reconnect with the political structure that produced him was a positive development that would promote unity and strengthen support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The minister was reacting to questions over whether the Rivers governor had been forgiven after a prolonged political crisis between both camps.
"I don't know what you mean by sin. In politics, there is no sin. If someone realises they made a mistake and decides to correct it, there is nothing wrong with that. Politics is not a sin. What matters is recognising that you were on the wrong path and making the right decision," Wike said.
He said he had always believed that Fubara would eventually return to the political family that facilitated his emergence as governor.
"I said during my last media chat that he had no other choice but to return to the same political family that produced him. I have now been informed that he has made that declaration publicly, and we welcome him," the minister stated.
Wike added that the political group was ready to work with everyone willing to contribute to the development of Rivers State.
"Our doors are open. Everyone is welcome for us to work together. There is no better alternative. We will all work together to move the state forward," he said.
The FCT minister said the reconciliation would also help consolidate efforts to secure victory for Tinubu in the 2027 election, noting that unity among political actors in Rivers would be important in achieving that objective.
Fubara had last week announced his return to Wike's political structure during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industry project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
At the event, the governor declared support for the Rainbow Coalition, endorsed Tinubu for a second term and urged his supporters to align with candidates backed by the coalition.
He said the period of political disagreements in the state was over and called for collective efforts towards moving Rivers forward.
Meanwhile, Wike also spoke on ongoing infrastructure projects in Abuja, expressing satisfaction with the progress recorded on the ISEX Road Corridor and the Apo-Karshi Road.
He said contractors handling the projects had shown commitment, adding that the ISEX Road project was expected to be completed and commissioned in December if funding obligations were met.
Wike said the FCT Administration would continue to complete important projects inherited from previous administrations, describing continuity as a key element of effective governance.
"Some people assume office and say they will only focus on projects they initiated. That is not leadership. Good leadership is continuing projects that are vital to the development of the city, projects that transform the landscape and improve the economy," he said.
He assured that the administration would continue to support contractors to ensure the timely completion of projects across the nation's capital.
