Tinubu nominates Oyedele for finance, moves Anite-Uzoka to budget ministry

Bola Tinubu, Nigeria's President, has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as Minister of State for Finance, replacing Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka in a minor cabinet reshuffle.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, Anite-Uzoka has been redeployed to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State, marking the third time she has been assigned a new portfolio since the administration began.

In a letter forwarded to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President sought legislative confirmation for Oyedele’s appointment.

Before his nomination, Oyedele served as chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, where he coordinated wide-ranging reforms aimed at restructuring Nigeria’s tax system.

The 50-year-old economist and accountant hails from Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State. He holds a Higher National Diploma in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.

He has also completed executive programmes at the London School of Economics, Yale University, Gordon Institute of Business Science and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, where he rose to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader after joining the firm in 2001.

He currently teaches at Babcock University and is also a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School.
