President Bola Tinubu has transmitted the names of three nominees for ambassadorial appointments to the Senate, marking the first batch of such nominations since he assumed office in 2023.

The list was announced on Wednesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary, which was streamed live on the National Assembly’s official YouTube channel.

The nominees are:

Kayode Are – Ogun State

Aminu Dalhatu – Jigawa State

Ayodele Oke

Akpabio, after reading the President’s letter, hinted that more names would be forwarded in due course.

“The list contains three names for now. I am sure others will follow,” he told lawmakers.

Tinubu’s prolonged delay in appointing ambassadors had drawn concerns from diplomats and foreign policy watchers, who warned that Nigeria’s representation abroad had been weakened by the absence of substantive envoys.

The Senate is expected to screen and confirm the nominees in the coming days.
