Bola Tinubu, Nigeria's president, has appointed executive directors for Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
Ajuri Ngelale, special adviser to the president on media and publicity in a statement said Vivian Edet was appointed as the executive director, finance and administration, NPA.
Olalekan Badmus was appointed as executive director, marine and operations, while Ibrahim Abba Umar was anmed executive director, engineering and technical services, NPA.
In NIMASA, Tinubu appointed Jibril Abba as executive director, maritime labour and cabotage services, Chudi Offodile, executive director, finance and administration and Fatai Taye Adeyemi, executive director, operations.
Ngelale said due to the profile of the directors, Tinubu expects them to expeditiously and efficiently execute their collective mandate to create the conditions required to significantly raise the contribution of the marine and blue economy sector to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP).
He said the president also trusts their contribution will evolve the Nigerian economy into a labour-intensive and inclusive one that creates new opportunities for all Nigerians under the guidance of Adegboyega Oyetola, minister of marine and blue economy.
Meanwhile, on November 14, 2023, Oyetola said the federal government is considering re-establishing a national shipping line.
The creation of the national shipping firm, which he said would be through a strategic public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement, is aimed at capturing a substantial share of the estimated $10 billion annual ship charter market within the country.
