Tinubu Forwards 68 Ambassadorial Nominees to Senate, Screening Begins

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a full list of 68 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, marking a major step toward rebuilding Nigeria’s diplomatic presence globally. The nominees - 34 career diplomats, 31 non-career nominees, and three already screened by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs—were formally announced on Wednesday.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the list to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, which has begun the screening process.

Senate Moves to Conclude Screening

A source within the Foreign Affairs Committee said the remaining nominees will be screened in batches before their names are returned to the full Senate for confirmation.

If approved, the 68 nominees will fill ambassadorial positions left vacant since Tinubu recalled all heads of mission in 2023, potentially revitalising Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements across continents.
