Enugu State Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, has initiated a comprehensive reshuffle of his executive council and key state agencies, approving the appointment of new commissioners, board chairmen, managing directors, and executive secretaries.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, announced the appointments in a statement on Wednesday. Barrister Osinachi Nnajieze and Dr C.O.C. Egumgbe have been nominated as commissioners-designate, with their confirmations pending at the Enugu State House of Assembly.
Several senior positions across strategic agencies were also filled. Kenechukwu Nnamani was appointed Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority, while James Chukwuemeka Mbah became Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board. Other key appointments include Dr Eric Oluedo as Executive Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Mrs Sylvia Onwubuemeli as Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Library Board, and Monday Diamond Ani as State Coordinator of the Community and Social Development Agency.
Governor Mbah also reconstituted the Governing Board of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, naming Hon. Afam Nnaji, Dr Mrs Uche Eze, Dr Mrs Oge Uka, and representatives from the three senatorial districts: Mrs Rita Chimaobi Ihemeje (Enugu West), Mrs Justina Ugwu (Enugu North), and Dr Nnenna Ogbonna (Enugu East). Other members include Theophilus Nweke (Nigeria Union of Teachers), Mrs Juliet Ifesinachi Ani (state women groups), and Dr Luke Ohabuenyi Ezema (Secretary).
The governor approved additional appointments across other strategic boards and agencies. Dr Mrs Nneka Onyebuchi and Patrick Onwe joined the Post Primary Schools Management Board, while Barrister Nwabueze Ugwu was named Chairman of the Governing Council of the Enugu State College of Education Technical. Chief Nwabueze Nnamani was appointed Board Chairman of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation. Richard Onaga and Hon. Bob Itanyi became Managing Directors of the Enugu State Waste Management Agency and the Enugu State Transport Company, respectively.
Other significant appointments include Barrister Richard Agu as Board Chairman of Enugu Air; Rt. Hon. USA Igwesi as Board Chairman of the New Enugu Smart City Development Authority; Hon. Chika Igwesi as Chairman of the Enugu State Road Maintenance and Development Agency; Hon. Chidera Odo as Chairman of the Enugu State Roads Fund, with Hon. Barrister Manfred Nzekwe appointed Executive Secretary.
Additionally, Dr John Egbo and Hon. Prince Emeka Mamah were named Managing Directors of the Enugu East Zone and Enugu North Zone Transport Terminals, respectively, while Rev. Chimaobi Aninwene joined the Enugu State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Prof. Onyia noted that all appointments, except the commissioners-designate, take immediate effect. “The governor expects the appointees to leverage their expertise and dedication in advancing the administration’s vision for effective governance and sustainable development in Enugu State,” the statement added.
