The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2 of Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, has suspended the senator representing Kogi East, Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced following a meeting of the Ward Executive Committee held on May 26, 2026, where party leaders reportedly reviewed the senator’s activities and conduct within the party.

In a letter signed by the ward chairman, Shaibu Mohammed, secretary, Kabiru Mohammed, and other executives, the APC accused the lawmaker of maintaining close ties with opposition politicians and allegedly holding consultations aimed at leaving the party.

Party officials claimed the senator’s actions stemmed from dissatisfaction with the party’s internal political arrangements and what they described as his failed bid for a third term in the Senate.

According to the ward executives, Echocho had consistently acted against the interests of the APC despite benefiting from the platform for almost eight years.

The party also accused him of failing to deliver electoral victories in his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and not providing adequate political leadership during critical moments for the party in the state.

“The decision was taken to protect the unity, discipline, and electoral strength of the APC in Kogi East,” the letter stated.

Reacting to the development, APC stakeholder, Mallam Nasiru Musa, described the suspension as necessary to safeguard the party from internal sabotage and disloyalty.

“Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho’s activities have become damaging to the party. For years, the people expected quality representation but were left disappointed,” Musa said.

“We cannot continue to tolerate actions capable of weakening the party simply because personal ambitions were not realised,” he added.

Party stakeholders in the district also expressed concern over what they described as the senator’s lack of impact and commitment to the party’s collective interest.

They insisted that the APC must remain firm in enforcing discipline and loyalty among its members ahead of the 2027 elections.

Supporters of the party in the area reportedly applauded the Ward Executive Committee for taking what they called a bold step to preserve the stability and future of the APC in Kogi State.

The suspension letter further noted that the action should serve as a warning to members engaging in activities capable of undermining the party’s unity and electoral chances.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach Senator Echocho for comments on the allegations and his suspension were unsuccessful as calls to his phone were not answered at the time of filing this report.
