President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a fresh list of non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Senate, adding several high-profile figures to his growing roster of diplomatic appointments.
Among the newly nominated are Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff and the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State, and Abdulrahman Dambazau, ex-Chief of Army Staff and former Minister of Interior.
Also included are former lawmaker Ita Enang and Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State. Their names were missing from the initial ambassadorial list released earlier by the presidency.
The president’s request was read aloud by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session, where Tinubu urged the upper chamber to speed up the confirmation process to allow the filling of key diplomatic roles.
Akpabio subsequently directed the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs to screen the nominees and present its report within one week.
This latest submission adds to an earlier set of nominees, which features Reno Omokri, Femi Fani-Kayode, former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former Enugu State governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, ex-Ekiti First Lady Erelu Bisi Fayemi, and former Lagos deputy governor Femi Pedro, among others.
