Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to publish the names of all political appointees, including their local government areas, in a national newspaper as part of efforts to enhance transparency and accountability.

Eno gave the order during a Town Square Meeting with stakeholders from Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, stressing that appointees must justify their positions by adding value to their communities.

The governor, who expressed displeasure over the conduct of some aides, said his administration would continue to track performance and reward those who make visible contributions at the grassroots.

“We cannot continue to play politics with everything,” Eno said. “It is time for our people to hold their representatives accountable. Ask your PAs, SAs, SSAs and Commissioners what they have done for your communities.”

Eno cited an example of his Personal Assistant on Protocol, Blessed Essien, who recently executed a borehole project for his village using personal resources. The governor announced Essien’s elevation to Special Assistant on Public Works as a reward for his gesture.

“I received a brochure showing how a PA reticulated a borehole in his village from his earnings. That’s the kind of impact we want to see. That is why I have promoted him,” Eno stated.

The governor maintained that his government would not tolerate political office as an avenue for self-enrichment, warning that non-performing aides risk removal.

Eno also defended the welfare of his aides, insisting that the remuneration they receive is substantial enough to make an impact in their constituencies.

He further urged community leaders to support government programmes and monitor projects to ensure delivery, reiterating that accountability remains a core principle of his administration.
