Nigeria’s economy sustained its growth trajectory in the second quarter of 2026, expanding by 4.4 per cent year-on-year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

The latest performance represents a marginal improvement from the 4.2 per cent growth recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025.

The NBS, in its latest GDP report released on Monday, said the expansion was supported by stronger output from both the oil and non-oil sectors.

The oil sector posted a 7.3 per cent year-on-year growth during the quarter, reflecting improved activity in the petroleum industry.

Similarly, the non-oil sector grew by 4.3 per cent year-on-year, maintaining its positive contribution to overall economic output.

The Q2 figures indicate a modest acceleration in economic activity compared with the same period last year, although the 0.2 percentage-point increase highlights the relatively gradual pace of the recovery.

The latest data come as policymakers continue to pursue measures aimed at boosting domestic production, improving investment and strengthening economic stability.

While the oil sector recorded the faster rate of expansion, the non-oil economy continued to account for a substantial part of Nigeria’s overall economic activity.

The NBS is expected to provide more detailed information on the performance of individual sectors and their contributions to the second-quarter growth in its comprehensive GDP report.
