President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm six nominees for executive director positions at the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The nominees, whose names were transmitted to the Senate in a presidential letter, include three existing executive directors nominated for another term and three fresh appointees.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the nominees would each serve a five-year tenure if confirmed by the Senate.
The three officials nominated for reappointment are Abiodun Adeniji, who oversees Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Kalu Ukoha, Executive Director, Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Mustapha Lamorde, Executive Director, Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
The new nominees are Mobolaji Tajudeen Musa for the position of Executive Director, Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie for Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib for Corporate Services and Administration.
Tinubu has urged the Senate to expedite consideration of the nominations, stressing the need to maintain institutional stability and improve the authority’s regulatory and supervisory functions.
In another appointment relating to the agency, the President has approved Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the Board/Authority and Legal Adviser.
Onanuga said the appointment would be subject to the completion of the statutory requirements outlined in Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The latest nominations follow Tinubu’s appointment of Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as chief executive of the NMDPRA in April.
The authority is responsible for regulating activities across Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sectors, including petroleum product distribution, storage infrastructure, gas processing and transportation.
