Heirs Insurance Group (HIG) has announced a call for applications for the maiden edition of the Heirs Insurance Hackathon, a technology-driven innovation programme aimed at empowering students to develop digital and artificial intelligence solutions for the insurance industry.

The company said the Hackathon is open to students in universities, polytechnics and other tertiary institutions, who are expected to build solutions addressing real-world challenges across the insurance value chain, including customer experience, claims processing, underwriting, distribution, data management and operational efficiency.

Speaking on the initiative, the Group Chief Digital Officer of Heirs Insurance, Peace Philips, said registration for the Hackathon will close on February 16, 2026, while winning teams will be announced at the grand finale scheduled for April.

She disclosed that a total prize pool of N9 million will be shared among the top three teams.

According to Philips, the Hackathon underscores Heirs Insurance Group’s commitment to youth empowerment, digital skills development and inclusive innovation, providing a platform for young Nigerians to apply emerging technologies to critical challenges within the financial services sector.

She added that participants would also gain exposure to industry mentorship, hands-on experience and real business problems.

Philips further explained that the programme is being delivered in partnership with Redtech, the digital payment solutions arm of Heirs Holdings, which will provide technical support and participate in reviewing submitted solutions.

According to her, the partnership will ensure that entries are assessed not only for creativity, but also for technical feasibility, scalability and real-world impact.
