Julius Berger to deliver infrastructure for Abuja Centenary City

The Managing Director of Abuja Centenary City, Dr. Odenigwe Ike Michaels Jr., has explained why leading construction giant Julius Berger Nigeria Plc was selected to execute the first phase of the ambitious city’s primary infrastructure project.

Speaking during the contract signing ceremony at his office on Friday, Michaels described Julius Berger as Nigeria’s most trusted engineering construction firm, renowned for quality and excellence in major projects nationwide.

“The company’s pedigree and proven track record make it the natural choice for a development of this magnitude,” Michaels stated, noting that the signing marked the official restart of construction at Centenary City after an 11-year pause.

According to him, Centenary City is envisioned as Abuja’s flagship urban renewal initiative and a global investment hub, featuring five-star hotels, luxury residences, an International Commerce Centre, the Centenary International Convention Centre, the Mall of Africa, and a championship golf course.

He urged Julius Berger to set a new benchmark for quality delivery, stressing its role as a key partner in realizing the city’s world-class vision.

In his remarks, Julius Berger’s Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch, described the project as transformative and a significant investment in Abuja’s future.

“Centenary City is more than an urban development; it is a catalyst for jobs, business opportunities, and international partnerships,” Lubasch said. “It will integrate world-class facilities—shopping malls, hotels, leisure and recreation spaces—while celebrating Nigeria’s cultural heritage.”

Lubasch recalled that Julius Berger has been associated with Centenary City since its inception in 2014, supporting its evolution from concept to reality.

“The contract we sign today—for a 4.31-kilometre international-standard dual carriageway with utilities and media—is not just about building a road,” he said. “It is about creating the backbone of this great city, unlocking its initial phase and setting the foundation for sustainable growth.”

He assured that the company would deliver infrastructure that meets global standards of precision, quality, and durability, adding: “When this road is complete, you will want to see many more kilometres of Julius Berger roads in this extraordinary city.”

The ceremony was attended by senior executives, including Oliver Berger, Julius Berger’s Regional Manager for Central and Northern operations.
