A prosecution witness, Ajayi Michael Folaseye, on Monday told the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, how he turned down a $7,000 bribe allegedly offered by a colleague seeking unauthorised access to Premium Trust Bank’s internal systems.
Ajayi, who is the first witness for the prosecution, gave his testimony before Justice Alexander Owoeye in the ongoing trial of two bank staff, Kehinde Odeyemi and Matthew Adeniyi Damilola.
The duo, along with three others — Samson Latshin Dakup, Bolaji Omotosho Yinka, and Sunday Badeniyi Okunola — are facing a seven-count charge of conspiracy to steal, brought against them by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the EFCC said Ajayi detailed how one of the defendants approached him with a $7,000 cash offer in exchange for compromising the bank’s internal security infrastructure.
Ajayi’s testimony forms part of the prosecution’s case against the defendants, who are accused of conspiring to manipulate the bank’s systems for fraudulent purposes.
The trial continues before Justice Owoeye in Lagos.
