The Lagos State government has sealed churches, event centres and other establishments in the Lagos Island, Ojudu, Ogba, Magodo, and Ikosi areas of the state over 'noise pollution.'
The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared pictures of the sealed facilities via X on Tuesday.
Some of the affected establishments affected include New Jerusalem Ark of God International Church and Yplus Event Centre.
The sealing of the establishments was carried out by the officials of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA).
“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) officials conducted an enforcement operation, which resulted in the closure and sealing off of specific establishments in areas including Lagos Island, Ojudu, Ogba, Magodo, and Ikosi, all due to concerns regarding noise pollution.
“Let's Stand United Against Noise Pollution! To combat noise pollution, LASEPA advocates strict adherence to the recommended sound levels in establishments, including religious centres, nightclubs, bars, and events centers,” the agency stated.
A popular nightclub was also sealed on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi.
The club, Silk Club located at 190, Awolowo Road, was sealed by the officials of LASEPA, who on the commissioner’s orders, conducted a nighttime enforcement operation in the area.
The commissioner, Wahab, had written on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, “As I directed, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency @LasepaOfficial conducted a nighttime enforcement operation, leading to the closure and sealing of Silk Club at 190, Awolowo Road, Ikoyi due to noise pollution.”
