Access Bank Plc has refuted reports circulating on social media alleging that it is shutting down, describing the claims as false and reassuring customers that its operations remain uninterrupted.
In a statement released on Thursday, the bank said the viral message, which it noted falsely impersonated its official communication channels, was designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary panic.
The lender affirmed that it remains financially sound and continues to operate normally across all its subsidiaries.
"Access Bank is safe, financially strong and fully operational across all our subsidiaries. Our services are running seamlessly, and we remain committed to delivering excellent banking services to our customers," the statement said.
The bank urged customers, business partners and the general public to disregard the misleading reports, insisting there was no truth to claims suggesting it was facing closure.
Access Bank also disclosed that it had commenced efforts to identify those responsible for originating and circulating the false information.
According to the bank, it is working with relevant regulatory authorities and law enforcement agencies to investigate the incident, adding that those found culpable would face legal consequences.
It warned that the deliberate creation and dissemination of false information capable of causing public panic or undermining confidence in financial institutions constitutes an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
The bank further advised customers to verify information through its official and verified communication platforms and refrain from sharing unverified messages.
It urged members of the public who receive the fake message to ignore and delete it rather than forwarding it to others, stressing that official announcements concerning the bank would always be communicated through its authorised channels.
Access Bank reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the confidence of its customers and stakeholders, assuring them that it remains focused on providing secure, reliable and uninterrupted banking services across its network.
