Dangote Petroleum Refinery has maintained its position as Europe's biggest supplier of imported jet fuel, exporting more than 400,000 tonnes of aviation fuel to the continent in July and outperforming traditional suppliers, including the United States.
Data released by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler showed that the Nigerian refinery accounted for about 20 per cent of Europe's total jet fuel imports during the month, consolidating the record it set in June when it displaced the United States as the region's leading supplier.
Europe imported an estimated 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote Refinery supplying the largest share of the total volume.
The refinery's performance marks another major milestone for Nigeria's largest industrial facility, underscoring its growing influence in the global refined petroleum products market and its ability to meet the rigorous quality standards required by European buyers.
Industry analysts said the refinery is steadily changing global fuel trade patterns by providing European importers with a reliable alternative to long-established suppliers from the United States, the Middle East and Asia.
They attributed the refinery's rising market share to its strategic Atlantic location, modern refining technology, high production capacity and efficient export logistics.
Dangote Refinery's export expansion has been supported by increasing output, with jet fuel shipments from its Lekki terminal reaching a record 550,000 tonnes in June.
Crude oil deliveries to the refinery also climbed to an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day, boosting production capacity and supporting higher exports of refined petroleum products.
The refinery's growing presence in the European market comes as buyers seek to diversify supply sources amid geopolitical uncertainties and supply disruptions affecting parts of the global energy market, including the Strait of Hormuz.
In addition to aviation fuel, Dangote Refinery has continued to increase exports of diesel, petrol and other refined petroleum products to destinations across Europe, Africa and other international markets.
Commenting on the refinery's export performance, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals, David Bird, said the company was helping to reposition Nigeria as a leading exporter of refined petroleum products.
According to him, the refinery's expanding exports of jet fuel and other products are strengthening Nigeria's position as a net exporter of value-added petroleum products while enhancing the country's relevance in the global energy value chain.
The sustained export performance is expected to further boost Nigeria's foreign exchange earnings, deepen the country's participation in international energy markets and reinforce Dangote Refinery's status as one of the world's fastest-growing refining hubs.
