Nigeria's national electricity grid has collapsed for the third time in 2024, leading to a nationwide blackout.

Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) confirmed the system collapse in separate statements on Monday.

Friday Adakole Elijah, head of corporate affairs, Jos Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo), in a statement said the current outage being experienced within its franchise states is due to a loss of power supply from the national grid.

“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred in the early hours at about 0242 hours of today, Monday, 15th April 2024, hence the loss of power supply on all our feeders,” he said.

He said the grid will be restored for improved power supply to its customers.

Also, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) said there has been a disruption “in our services which is due to load shedding from TCN on Annex, CIG, Dideolu, Etim Inyang, Palace Road and Rocky Estate feeders in Islands district”.

“Affected areas are Jubril Martins, Ajose Adeogun, Younis Bashorun, Fatai Durosinmi-Etiti Crescent, Muri Okunola, Ligali Ayonrinde, Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, Chief Yesufu Abiodun Way, Palace Road, Dideolu Estate, Etim Inyang Crescent and Ademola Adetokunbo,” Eko DisCo said.

“We sincerely apologise for our inability to meet up with the required service level in the past 2 days.”

The DisCo said it is currently collaborating with partners to remedy the situation as soon as possible.

The electricity grid, on February 4, collapsed for the first time in 2024. Also, the country suffered another nationwide blackout on March 28.
