Lagride has introduced a new shared-ride transport service known as the Lagride Omni, aimed at providing a safer and more organised alternative to the popular korope minibuses used across Lagos.

The service features air-conditioned vehicles with capacity for up to six passengers and is available for group or individual bookings through the Lagride mobile app. Unlike commercial buses that make multiple stops, the Omni service runs direct trips, with riders booking the entire vehicle for their group.

At the launch event, Lagride chairman, Chief Diana Chen, said the initiative is part of the company’s broader plan to modernise urban mobility in Africa’s largest city.

“The Lagride Omni is designed to make group travel more comfortable, affordable and reliable,” Chen said. “Our goal is to expand access to safe and efficient transportation while strengthening community movement across Lagos.”

Each Omni vehicle is GPS-enabled and operated by trained drivers certified through the Lagride Academy, which runs in partnership with the Lagos State Government and road safety agencies. The company said the service is suited for offices, churches, schools, neighbourhood groups and event organisers who need coordinated travel.

Acting managing director of Lagride, Jubril Arogundade, noted that the service addresses the reality of group travel patterns in the city.

“Many Lagosians move in groups daily. With the Omni, one person books and everyone rides together,” he said. “It reduces cost, improves safety and provides comfort without the repeated stops associated with commercial buses.”

Lagride also announced plans to hire 1,000 additional drivers to expand the Omni fleet, saying the recruitment campaign forms part of a broader employment and community-engagement programme.

The company said bookings can be made through the Lagride app or via WhatsApp for bulk and event travel, with flexible payment systems including corporate accounts and cashless options.
