The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, with 68,166 candidates securing five credits and above, including the compulsory subjects of English Language and Mathematics.

The NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed this on Tuesday while addressing journalists in Minna, Niger State. He said the examination was conducted in 16 subjects and recorded encouraging performances in core areas.

According to him, 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, comprising 51,823 males and 45,156 females. Out of this number, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the examination - 50,785 males and 44,375 females.

Wushishi revealed that 73,167 candidates obtained credit passes and above, representing 78.32 per cent of the 93,425 candidates whose results were processed.

He noted that Mathematics recorded one of the highest success rates, with 85,256 of the 93,330 candidates who wrote the subject, representing 91.35 per cent, scoring credit passes and above.

On the key benchmark for admission into tertiary institutions, he said 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics. In addition, 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 per cent, secured five credits and above irrespective of the two compulsory subjects.

The registrar, however, expressed concern over examination malpractice, stating that 9,016 candidates were sanctioned - a rise of 2,856 cases compared to 2024.

He added that five supervisors from the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states were blacklisted for allegedly aiding malpractice, while four centres in Niger, Yobe and Kano states have been recommended for de-recognition over mass malpractice.

Describing the outcome as another milestone for NECO, Wushishi appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the education sector and noted that the council is currently owed less than N2 billion by the 36 states.

The 2025 SSCE took place between November 26 and December 13, 2025, while marking was conducted from January 5 to January 21, 2026.
