Stock Market Gains 0.92% on MTN, Others’ Price Rally

The Nigerian stock market closed on a strong note Thursday, buoyed by price appreciation in blue-chip stocks like MTN Nigeria and others on the gainers’ chart.

The All-Share Index (ASI) climbed by 0.92%, rising to 117,861.13 points from the previous 116,786.87 points. Similarly, the market capitalisation gained N678 billion, closing at N74.359 trillion from N73.681 trillion.

Total turnover stood at 894 million shares exchanged in 17,257 deals, with a cumulative market value of N22 billion.

Market Breadth

The session ended with a positive market breadth as 43 equities recorded gains, outperforming 20 decliners.

Top Gainers

Ikeja Hotel Plc led the pack, gaining 10% to close at N15.40 from N14.00.

Beta Glass and Legend Internet followed with 9.98% and 9.92% increases, respectively.


Top Losers

Guinea Insurance was the worst performer, dropping 9.21% to close at N0.69 from N0.76.

HMCALL and C & I Leasing also shed 5.88% and 5.84%, respectively.


Top Traded Stocks by Volume

Champion Breweries led in volume with 332 million shares traded in 109 deals, valued at approximately N2.27 billion.

GTCO followed with 63 million shares exchanged in 868 deals, worth about N5 billion.

PZ Cussons recorded 47 million units traded across 262 deals, valued at roughly N148 million.

The bullish performance reflects renewed investor interest and buying momentum in key sectors of the market.
