Dangote Fertiliser Limited (DFL) has partnered with thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology (UFT) to license its advanced UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology for four new urea granulation units in Lekki, Nigeria. The deal includes the technology license, a full Process Design Package, and proprietary equipment such as granulators and scrubbers.
Each new unit will produce 4,235 metric tons per day, increasing DFL’s annual urea output from roughly 2.65 million tons to over 8 million tons. The plants will complement DFL’s existing facilities, which have operated with UFT technology since 2021.
The new units will feature energy-efficient scrubbing systems to control dust and ammonia emissions and Ammonia Convert Technology (ACT), which integrates ammonium sulfate byproducts into urea granules, reducing waste and creating commercial benefits.
Nadja Haakansson, CEO of thyssenkrupp Uhde, said: “This partnership underscores our shared commitment to sustainable industrial development and global food security. By deploying UFT® technology, we are supporting DFL in building efficient and future-ready fertilizer value chains.”
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, added: “This expansion strengthens agricultural self-sufficiency and industrial growth across Africa. It ensures high-quality urea production that meets global standards while minimizing environmental impact, further positioning Nigeria as a leading fertilizer producer.”
Dangote Fertiliser, one of Africa’s largest fertilizer producers, continues to expand capacity to support food security and agricultural productivity. UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology is used to produce over 70% of the world’s urea granules, combining high efficiency with emissions well below regulatory limits.
