The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has urged Nigerians to remain calm and avoid panic buying, assuring that fuel supply across the country remains sufficient during the peak demand period.

In a statement dated November 12 and signed by George Ene-Ita, Director of Public Affairs, the regulator said petroleum products - including petrol, diesel, and LPG - are being consistently replenished from local refineries and import channels to ensure availability at storage depots and retail stations.

The authority warned against hoarding and arbitrary price hikes, noting that such practices are unnecessary given current supply levels. It also clarified that the planned 15% import duty on petrol and diesel will no longer be implemented, a measure expected to help stabilise pump prices.

“We will continue to monitor the supply situation closely and take regulatory measures to prevent disruptions in the distribution of petroleum products,” the statement said, reaffirming NMDPRA’s commitment to energy security.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s crude oil production rose slightly to 1.401 million barrels per day in October 2025, according to the OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report, up from 1.39 million barrels in September. Despite the increase, the figure remains below Nigeria’s OPEC quota of 1.5 million barrels per day, marking the third consecutive month the country has underperformed.
