British Airways on Friday removed 58 passengers from its Abuja–London service after a technical fault was detected on the aircraft’s door, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has disclosed.

The agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said in a post on X that safety protocols required all seats around the affected door to remain vacant.

“This meant 58 passengers could not be accommodated on the flight,” Achimugu explained. “The airline provided hotel accommodation for those affected, with 28 passengers choosing to return home and 30 accepting the hotel offer.”

He confirmed the passengers are eligible for compensation and will be rebooked for Saturday’s flight.

Achimugu urged travellers facing similar disruptions to immediately engage NCAA Consumer Protection Officers at the airport to safeguard their rights.
