Ezra Olubi, co-founder and former Chief Technology Officer of Paystack, has stated that he was unfairly dismissed by the payments company following allegations of sexual misconduct. He made the disclosure in a blog post published on Saturday, November 23, 2025.

Titled Terminated, the post details Olubi’s contention that the company ended his contract before completing an investigation into the allegations and without giving him an opportunity to respond.

“Over the past few days, my name and reputation, built over years as co-founder and technical leader at Paystack, have been called into question because of information circulating online,” Olubi wrote.

The controversy began in mid-November after a social media post accused Olubi of abusive behaviour. The allegations reignited scrutiny of several explicit tweets he made between 2009 and 2013, many of which contained sexually suggestive content.

Following the claims, Paystack confirmed that Olubi had been suspended and that a formal investigation, led by an independent party, had been initiated.

Olubi insisted that the termination contravened the company’s suspension policies. “I was not given a meeting or opportunity to defend myself before my contract was ended,” he said, adding that the silence during the investigation allowed “assumptions and misrepresentations to spread without challenge.”

He also maintained that his old tweets do not reflect his professional conduct or personal behaviour. “Those who know me understand that the posts being circulated do not represent my character. I have always conducted myself in a manner that respects everyone’s dignity and safety,” he wrote.

Olubi stated that his legal team is considering possible responses to the dismissal.

Founded in 2015 by Olubi and Shola Akinlade, Paystack became the first Nigerian startup accepted into Y Combinator in 2016. In 2020, it was acquired by Stripe for over $200 million, establishing it as one of Africa’s leading fintech companies.
