The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will release the results of 379,000 candidates who sat for the rescheduled Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) on Wednesday.

The affected candidates wrote their exams between Friday and Monday following a rescheduling triggered by widespread concerns over mass failure in the initial UTME.

JAMB had admitted that technical and human errors—particularly in Lagos and South-East centres—compromised the integrity of some results, prompting a probe and the decision to hold a resit.

Over 1.9 million candidates took the 2024 UTME, with more than 1.5 million scoring below 200 out of a possible 400, raising alarm among stakeholders.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, acknowledged the board’s failings and took responsibility, even becoming emotional during a public apology. He described the situation as a “sabotage” and assured the public of reforms.

JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin confirmed the new results will be available from Wednesday.

According to JAMB, 206,610 candidates in 65 centres across Lagos and 173,387 candidates in 92 centres across the South-East were directly impacted.

Initial UTME results showed only 0.63% of candidates scored 300 and above, while over 50% scored between 160 and 199—just at the entry-level threshold for many institutions.

The board assured that corrective steps are being taken to improve the credibility and fairness of future exams.
