Lagos residents have been alerted to possible intermittent power outages as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) begins a 25-day maintenance exercise on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line.

According to a statement by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the scheduled work will run from Monday, July 28, 2025, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm daily.

The project, which has been approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the National Independent System Operator (NISO), will involve the installation of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) fibre cable on the key transmission line.

“This upgrade is part of critical infrastructure improvements that will enable the full operationalization of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system and enhance real-time monitoring and control of the national grid,” Mbah said.

TCN assures minimal disruption

The transmission company explained that power supply through the line will be restored at the end of each day’s work, while other circuits feeding the Lagos network will remain active to limit disruptions.

“Power will be restored through the line after each day’s work, and all other circuits will remain operational to ensure a stable power supply to the Lagos complex during the exercise,” TCN stated.

Ikeja, Eko DISCOs warn of load shedding

In anticipation of the maintenance, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) and Ikeja Electric (IE) have issued separate notices to customers, warning of intermittent power supply and load management across their networks.

“Dear esteemed customer, please be informed that the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) will carry out scheduled maintenance on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV transmission line from Monday, July 28, to Thursday, August 21, 2025, between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm daily,” Ikeja Electric said.

“During this period, customers may experience intermittent power supply and load shedding across our network due to the planned TCN outage,” the company added.

EKEDC issued a similar advisory, urging customers to prepare for temporary disruptions while assuring them that efforts will be made to minimise the impact on households and businesses.
