Nigeria is set to take over the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) from Argentina on November 1, 2025, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has confirmed.

The G-24, established in 1971, serves as a forum for developing nations to harmonise their positions on global monetary policy, financial stability, and development financing, ensuring their collective interests are effectively represented in international economic discussions.

In a post on its official X handle on Wednesday, the CBN stated:

"Nigeria will formally take office on November 1, 2025, and will unveil its Work Programme after due consultations.”

Speaking at the G-24 meeting, the CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Cardoso, who represented the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, reaffirmed Nigeria’s readiness to lead the group towards stronger cooperation and advocacy for developing countries.

“Our focus will be on sustaining momentum in areas that matter most to our members,” Cardoso said. “We look forward to working with other member countries to advance our shared goals of inclusive growth, equity, and global stability. We are determined to ensure that the G-24 remains a powerful platform for articulating and defending the common interests of emerging and developing economies.”

Nigeria’s assumption of the G-24 chairmanship marks another milestone in the country’s growing influence within global financial and development policy circles, coming at a time when developing economies continue to push for a fairer and more inclusive international financial system.
