Emirates resumes Lagos-Dubai flights as Gulf airspace restrictions ease

Emirates Airlines has announced the resumption of its Dubai–Lagos–Dubai flights following a temporary suspension triggered by escalating Middle East tensions.

The airline confirmed that services would restart on Friday, March 6, 2026, giving travellers whose plans were disrupted by the conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel a chance to resume travel.

Several Gulf carriers, including Emirates, suspended flights globally after hostilities escalated on February 28, 2026. The conflict prompted several Gulf nations to close their airspace, forcing airlines to halt operations due to security concerns.

In a notice to its trade partners in Nigeria, Emirates stated: “We will be operating Dubai–Lagos–Dubai flights (EK783 & EK784) tomorrow. Passengers are encouraged to make bookings promptly as seat availability is limited.”

The airline noted that the resumption would allow travellers to continue disrupted journeys while it continues to monitor developments in the region and adjust flight operations as necessary.

Earlier this week, Emirates had started limited skeletal flights to Dubai as part of a cautious effort to restore operations safely. Passengers have been advised to check flight status updates on the airline’s website before travelling to the airport.

Industry sources said the airline might maintain a reduced flight schedule until the security situation in the Gulf stabilises. Ongoing missile exchanges between Israel and Iran, along with retaliatory strikes on allied countries, have continued to disrupt normal aviation activity.

Qatar Airways has also indicated plans to resume services to Lagos in the near future, signalling a gradual return of Gulf carriers to pre-conflict operations.

The resumption of Emirates flights is expected to relieve pressure on travellers and restore key air links between Nigeria and the Middle East, which are crucial for business, tourism, and international connections.
