Fuel marketers press Dangote for N75 hike on petrol, diesel

Dangote Petroleum Refinery has alleged that members of the Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) asked it to raise the price of petrol and diesel by N75 per litre before they would buy products directly from its gantry.

If the demand were to be implemented, the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) could climb to about N950 per litre, while Automotive Gas Oil (diesel) could rise to around N1,090 per litre in some parts of the country.

The refinery explained that although it sells products at gantry price, DAPPMAN insists on delivery through coastal logistics, an option that would add N75 per litre in extra costs. With daily national consumption of 40 million litres of petrol and 15 million litres of diesel, this would amount to an additional N1.5 trillion annually.

Rejecting the request, the refinery said it had no intention of raising its gantry price or subsidising such costs on behalf of marketers.

“We have no intention of increasing our gantry price to accommodate such demands, nor are we willing to pay a subsidy of over N1.5 trillion, a practice that historically defrauded the Federal Government for many years. DAPPMAN and other marketers are welcome to lift products directly from our gantry and benefit from our logistics-free initiative,” it stated.
