Air Peace will operate three weekly flights between Lagos and São Paulo, following the signing of a Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) between Nigeria and Brazil. The deal, concluded on Monday in Brasília, is expected to deepen trade, tourism, and cultural ties between the two countries.

The agreement was formalised by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Filhos, in the presence of Presidents Bola Tinubu and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. It grants Nigerian carriers traffic rights to operate passenger and cargo services into Brazil and vice versa.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, Air Peace Chairman and CEO, Allen Onyema, described the Lagos–São Paulo route as “long overdue,” noting that it would open fresh opportunities for business, leisure travel, and bilateral cooperation.

According to Onyema, the airline will start with three flights weekly and plans to scale up operations based on passenger demand and market conditions. “We believe this new route will strengthen connectivity between West Africa and South America and drive economic growth,” he said.

The service, scheduled to launch in late November 2025, will mark the first direct link between Nigeria and Brazil by a Nigerian carrier, eliminating the need for stopovers in Europe or the Middle East. Analysts say the development could also help reduce ticket costs and enhance cargo movement, benefiting exporters and importers.
