ACF Welcomes Central African Republic as 46th Member

The Central African Republic (CAR) has formally joined the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), becoming the institution’s 46th member state in a move aimed at boosting infrastructure-led development across the resource-rich nation.

The AFC, a pan-African multilateral finance institution, announced the membership on Tuesday, describing it as a milestone that will open new avenues for CAR to leverage its natural wealth, including diamonds, gold, and timber, for inclusive growth.

Through the partnership, CAR will gain access to AFC’s financing instruments, project structuring expertise, and its network of global partners to drive investments in key sectors such as power, transport, and natural resources.

Finance and Budget Minister Hervé Ndoba said the membership represents a fresh opportunity to reposition the country for long-term prosperity.
“This marks a new chapter in the Central African Republic’s development journey,” he said. “The Corporation’s expertise in mining and renewable energy is precisely what our nation requires, and we are proud to collaborate on a shared vision of industrial growth and infrastructure-led progress.”

AFC President and CEO, Samaila Zubairu, noted that CAR’s abundant resources provide a strong foundation for growth if properly channelled.
“We warmly welcome the Central African Republic as our latest member country,” Zubairu said. “As one of Africa’s most resource-rich nations, CAR has the potential to transform its natural wealth into economic prosperity. Together, we will deliver infrastructure projects that create jobs, promote industrialisation, and strengthen regional integration.”

The Corporation has a track record of financing and structuring large-scale projects across Africa, particularly in energy, transport, and extractives. By joining AFC, CAR is expected to accelerate efforts to build critical infrastructure while securing greater participation in the continental development agenda.

With this addition, AFC now counts 46 countries among its members, underscoring its expanding role as a key partner for African governments seeking sustainable growth through infrastructure.
