United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has reinforced its leadership in supporting economic growth and MSME development by winning four major awards at the 2025 Development Bank of Nigeria (DBN) Service Ambassador Awards held in Lagos over the weekend.
The annual awards recognise financial institutions that provide impactful support to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country. UBA stood out in four key categories: Deposit Money Bank (DMB) with the Highest Impact on MSMEs in Nigeria; DMB with the Highest Impact on Women MSMEs; Participating Financial Institution (PFI) with the Highest Impact in the North-Central Zone; and the top honour—the Platinum Service Ambassador Award.
These recognitions highlight UBA’s continued commitment to inclusive finance, women empowerment, and support for underserved regions.
Receiving the Platinum Award on behalf of the bank, UBA’s Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Muyiwa Akinyemi, said: “We are deeply honoured to be recognised by DBN for our efforts in driving sustainable growth for MSMEs, particularly women-led businesses and enterprises in the North-Central region. These awards reflect our strategic focus on financing, capacity building, and innovation for small business success. We remain committed to building economic resilience across Nigeria.”
DBN’s Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Tony Okpanachi, praised UBA’s contributions: “UBA has shown consistent dedication to easing MSME financing constraints. Their support for women and underserved communities aligns with DBN’s goals. We applaud their achievements and urge them to keep raising the bar in MSME financing.”
