Abia govt felicitates with Lt. Gen. Azubike Ihejirika on 70th birthday

The Abia State Government has extended heartfelt felicitations to Lt. Gen. Azubike Ihejirika (Rtd.), CFR, a retired Chief of Army Staff and native son of the state, as he marks his 70th birthday today, February 13, 2026.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the government described Lt. Gen. Ihejirika as “a titan of discipline, a sentinel of security, and a patriot of uncommon courage,” noting his longstanding contributions to both national and state security.

According to the statement, Lt. Gen. Ihejirika’s service did not end with his retirement from the Nigerian Army. Under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti, OFR, he has continued to support Abia State’s security architecture, providing strategic oversight as head of a critical security committee. His experience has been credited with enhancing intelligence coordination, promoting inter-agency collaboration, and shaping proactive measures against crime.

The government also highlighted Lt. Gen. Ihejirika’s role as a respected elder statesman and security advisor long before the current administration, commending his consistent advocacy for community vigilance, security reforms, and institutional synergy.

“Security remains the bedrock of development, and it takes men of courage, clarity, and conviction to fortify that foundation,” the statement said. “Lt. General Ihejirika represents the bridge between experience and action. His life affirms that service to humanity does not retire; it simply continues to evolve.”

As Abia State continues to witness improvements in its security landscape, the government acknowledged the retired general’s silent but impactful contributions, wishing him renewed strength, good health, and opportunities for continued service to the state and nation.

“Happy 70th Birthday, General. Abia is proud of you. Nigeria salutes you,” the statement concluded.
