In a fresh escalation of violence in Nigeria’s North-Central region, around 20 soldiers were reportedly killed in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, when armed bandits launched a surprise attack on a military camp near Bangi, in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.
Sources familiar with the incident said the heavily armed assailants stormed the camp at dawn, catching the soldiers off guard and engaging them in a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours. The attackers eventually overran the camp after intense fighting.
“About 20 soldiers were killed today by armed bandits near Bangi in an early morning raid on their camp,” one source disclosed.
While full details of the attack are still unfolding, initial reports suggest that several other soldiers sustained injuries during the assault. The incident marks one of the deadliest single attacks on security forces in the region in recent months.
