Cristiano Ronaldo, one of football’s biggest icons, has taken a major step off the pitch — he’s asked long-time partner Georgina Rodríguez to marry him, and she’s said an emphatic “yes.”
The 40-year-old star’s fiancée confirmed the news on Instagram on Monday, sharing a photo of a spectacular diamond ring that could light up a stadium. Alongside the glittering close-up, Georgina wrote: “Yes, I do. In this and all my life.”
For years, fans have speculated about when the couple might make things official. In a Netflix documentary about Georgina’s life, Ronaldo explained the delay with a simple answer: “We’re waiting for the click — it could be a year, six months, even a month. I’m sure 1000 per cent it will happen.”
That click has finally arrived.
Ronaldo and Georgina’s love story began in 2016 in Madrid, when the Portuguese striker walked into the Gucci store where she was working as a sales assistant. She has since described their meeting as “love at first sight.” Their romance became public later that year after they were photographed together at Disneyland Paris.
Nearly nine years on, the couple have built a blended family of five children — including Ronaldo’s eldest son from a previous relationship — while navigating a life split between football stadiums, luxury homes, and public events. Georgina has transformed from boutique worker to global fashion influencer, model, and reality TV personality, often seen cheering Ronaldo on from the stands.
The engagement ring, noticeably different from the jewellery she’s worn before, is said to feature a large central stone surrounded by smaller diamonds, symbolising — according to one close friend — “a love that’s only grown bigger with time.”
With Ronaldo now starring for Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and Georgina continuing to grow her brand worldwide, the wedding is expected to draw A-list guests from the worlds of sport, fashion, and entertainment. For now, though, the couple appear content to enjoy the moment, marking a new chapter in a romance that has been played out in front of millions.
Cristiano Ronaldo may be known for scoring goals on the pitch, but this time, he’s just netted the biggest win of his personal life.
