Benin City was thrown into shock on Thursday following the sudden death of the Edo State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Agun Gbenga.

Gbenga, who had attended a programme organised by the International Association of World Peace Advocates at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre, reportedly slumped shortly after delivering his goodwill message.

Eyewitnesses said the commandant, who appeared in good health when he arrived at the venue, suddenly collapsed on his seat, prompting frantic efforts to resuscitate him. He was immediately rushed to the Military Hospital in Benin, but doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

The tragic incident left dignitaries and other attendees visibly shaken, as many struggled to come to terms with how quickly the situation unfolded.

Security personnel and organisers were seen in distress, while participants left the hall in disbelief, expressing concern over the commandant’s abrupt passing.
