Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Friday extended financial support to two institutions in Bauchi State, donating N15 million to boost healthcare training and Islamic education.
Obi, who was in the state on a working visit, first stopped at the Malkiya College of Nursing Sciences, where he presented a cheque of N10 million to the management. He described nurses as the backbone of the health sector, stressing their central role in patient care and public health.
“The nurse owns the patient. The nurse is everything. By 2030, there will be a global demand for more nurses, so you are leading an important cause,” he told the students and faculty.
He explained that his contribution was part of a personal commitment to visit and support nursing institutions across the country, noting that human capital development is the foundation for a healthy society.
Obi then proceeded to the Intisharu Taufizul Quranic Islamic School in the Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis, where he donated N5 million to strengthen the school’s educational programmes.
According to him, the school’s mission of combining Islamic teachings with secular subjects such as English and Mathematics is vital for raising well-rounded future leaders.
"Our children must gain both moral and intellectual knowledge. It will help them live better lives and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor rounded off his engagements in Bauchi with a presentation at a “Youth and Leadership Opportunity” forum organised by Students’ Union Government (SUG) leaders, where he challenged young Nigerians to embrace integrity, hard work, and quality education as tools for transforming the nation.
