Man murders elder brother over property in Niger

A man identified as Abubakar Sani, has killed his elder brother, Kabiru, during an argument over a property in Niger State.

Both siblings who hail from the Tafa Local Government Area of Niger State were residents of the Gawu Babangida area of Gurara Local Government Area of the state.

Sani was said to have hit his elder brother with a big stick over the argument, which led to his death.

According to sources, the suspect had been threatening his family members before the argument ensued with his elder brother.

The state police spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, told Punch that the suspect was arrested, adding that the case was under investigation.

“On 24/3/2024 at about 1145hrs, police operatives attached to Gawu-Babangida Division arrested one Abubakar Sani 30yrs of Gawu-Babangida area, Gurara LGA.

“The suspect was arrested for having engaged in a fight with his brother, Kabir Sani 34yrs over issues of property, and during the fight, he allegedly hit the brother with a stick on the head.

“The victim became unconscious and he was rushed to FMC, Gawu where he was confirmed dead. Preliminary investigation is ongoing, and the suspect will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation and diligent prosecution,” he stated.
