American rapper Nicki Minaj has spotlighted the alleged persecution of Christians in Nigeria, calling for immediate global action during a United Nations event hosted by U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz on Tuesday.

Minaj, who has previously highlighted the crisis on social media, was invited to speak after her posts drew attention from the U.S. diplomat. She thanked former President Donald Trump for prioritising the protection of Nigerian Christians on the international stage.

Drawing on her experiences in music and across cultures, Minaj emphasised that freedom of religion should allow everyone to practise their faith without fear. “Faith is under attack in way too many places,” she said.

“In Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, driven from their homes, and killed. Churches are being burned, families torn apart, and entire communities live in constant fear simply because of how they pray,” she added.

Minaj stressed that her advocacy is humanitarian, not political: “Protecting Christians in Nigeria is not about taking sides. It is about uniting humanity and standing against injustice.”

Her remarks follow Trump’s recent warning that Nigeria could be designated as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), a move that could lead to the suspension of U.S. aid and possible intervention if attacks on Christians continue.

Minaj concluded by urging world leaders and institutions to take decisive steps to protect Nigerian Christians and prevent further escalation of violence.
