Billionaire businessman and Chairman of the Ibru Organisation, Olorogun Oscar Eyovbirere Ibru, has died at the age of 67.

His family announced on Wednesday that he passed away after a brief illness. Funeral arrangements will be released later.

Oscar, eldest son of the late Olorogun Michael Ibru, became the most prominent custodian of the Ibru dynasty following his father’s death in 2016. The Ibru Organisation, founded over six decades ago, is one of Nigeria’s most enduring conglomerates with interests in shipping, oil and gas, fishing, aviation, real estate and commerce.

Born on August 11, 1958, Oscar studied at Igbobi College, Lagos, before obtaining degrees from Skidmore College, New York, and Atlanta University. He returned to Nigeria in 1983, working briefly at The Guardian before rising to Managing Director of Emsee Shipping Lines in 1992.

Beyond business, he chaired the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping, founded the Dream Child Foundation, and was honoured by Igbinedion University with a doctorate in 2017.

He is survived by his wife, Chief Wanda Ibru, and three children.
