Seventeen-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State has emerged as the World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom, putting Nigeria in the global spotlight.
Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Nafisa outperformed more than 20,000 students from 69 countries, including several native English-speaking nations, to clinch the prestigious title.
The TeenEagle competition is an internationally recognised academic contest that assesses students’ English proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills. It draws participants from both English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries across the globe.
Nafisa’s exceptional achievement was confirmed in a statement by her family’s head, Hassan Salifu, who attributed her success to discipline, hard work, and the support of the Yobe State government.
“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without her dedication and the visionary commitment to education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni,” Salifu said, adding that Nafisa’s victory has brought international honour to both Yobe and Nigeria.
He also noted that Nafisa surpassed contestants from countries where English is the primary language—an accomplishment that highlights her outstanding preparation and intellect.
Her victory has sparked widespread celebration in Yobe and beyond. The Aminu family expressed deep gratitude to Governor Buni and the educators at NTIC for nurturing Nafisa’s academic growth.
“This is a powerful example of what investment in education can achieve. Governor Buni’s support for schools has not only transformed learning in the state but also positioned our youth for global excellence,” the family said.
Nafisa’s triumph has inspired calls for national recognition, with many Nigerians urging the government to bestow her with both state and federal honours.
“She has made our country proud by beating contestants from native English-speaking nations. Her win proves that Nigerian students, given the right support, can compete—and win—on any global stage,” a proud family member said.
Nafisa’s story is fast becoming a symbol of Nigeria’s vast but often overlooked academic potential.
