Dangote offers support for BBNaija star Phyna’s sister injured in accident

The Dangote Group has promised that it will bear all medical expenses and provide compensation for Mrs. Ruth Otabor, who lost a leg after being struck by one of its cement trucks in Auchi, Edo State.

Otabor, sister to Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma “Phyna” Otabor, was reportedly hit by the truck on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, barely a week after graduating from the institution. Witnesses said the truck crushed her leg before help arrived to rush her to hospital.

The incident has since sparked outrage on social media, with the hashtag #JusticeForRuth trending widely. Fans, activists, and celebrities have joined calls for justice, while raising concerns over road safety standards and the training of heavy-duty vehicle drivers.

In a statement issued on August 14, the Dangote Group confirmed the incident and said senior officials, alongside its insurance representatives, visited both the accident scene and the victim at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.

“This action reflects our commitment to the well-being of those affected. We are ensuring comprehensive medical care and appropriate compensation for Mrs. Otabor in line with our welfare policy. We wish her a full and speedy recovery,” the statement read.

The development comes amid growing public demands for stricter road safety enforcement and transparent investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
