Kogi State has been rocked by a series of violent attacks over the weekend, raising alarm over growing insecurity in the region.
On Sunday, a commercial vehicle was attacked along the Idofin axis in Yagba East Local Government Area, barely 24 hours after two motorists were reportedly abducted on the same road. Video footage from the scene shows the aftermath of the ambush, highlighting the increasing dangers faced by travelers. A source told Egbe Mekun Parrot that the driver narrowly escaped the attack. Security operatives are still searching for the two previously abducted motorists.
Residents have called on the Kogi State government and security agencies to act swiftly to restore safety along the troubled route.
In a separate attack on Sunday morning, armed bandits targeted Ejiba town in Yagba West Local Government Area, storming a new Cherubim and Seraphim Church during service. Eyewitness Adegboyega Oguns said congregants fled in panic while the church pastor, known as Orlando, his wife, and several others were abducted. “It is serious, we all ran out of church,” he recounted.
The spate of attacks follows another incident on Saturday along the Isanlu Makutu–Idofin corridor in Yagba East, where residents and travelers were forced to flee after bandits struck unexpectedly.
The exact number of abducted victims remains unclear, but local sources say the weekend’s violence has caused widespread fear, with residents staying indoors and travelers avoiding affected roads.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement, while communities urge heightened security presence to curb the wave of attacks and ensure the safety of residents and commuters.
