The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reopened its National Identification Number (NIN) alignment service, offering eligible candidates another chance to resolve inconsistencies between their examination records and personal data registered with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
The board announced the reopening on Friday through its official X account, @jamb_hq, urging candidates with discrepancies in their biodata to take advantage of the opportunity.
JAMB, however, emphasised that the exercise was a one-time opportunity, warning that applications would be subjected to verification and approval was not guaranteed.
The examination body advised candidates to first correct any errors in their NIN records through NIMC before seeking to align the information with their JAMB profiles.
It also urged applicants to exercise caution when completing the process, stressing the need to identify and select every necessary correction in a single application.
The alignment service is intended to address inconsistencies in personal details, which may include names, dates of birth and other biodata fields permitted under the exercise.
In its announcement, JAMB directed candidates to an accompanying episode of its JAMB Explained video series, which provides guidance on the application process, eligible information for correction and verification requirements.
Candidates were encouraged to watch the video carefully and comply with the stipulated procedures before submitting their requests.
The board warned that errors, incomplete submissions or inaccurate information could affect the outcome of applications. It therefore advised candidates to verify all entries before final submission.
Those who need to modify their NIN details can initiate the process through NIMC's self-service modification portal at selfservicemodification.nimc.gov.ng or visit an authorised NIMC centre.
Applicants must ensure that the corrections have been updated on their NIN records before proceeding with JAMB alignment.
Depending on the nature of the changes, supporting documents such as birth certificates, affidavits, certificates of local government origin and NIN slips may be required.
JAMB also advised candidates to access the service through the official platform specified in its announcement and video guide. Applicants should confirm the applicable procedure, required documents and any fees from the board's official instructions.
After submitting their applications, candidates are expected to monitor their JAMB profiles and registered contact details for updates on the status of their requests.
The board further cautioned against using unauthorised intermediaries, urging candidates to rely on its official website, jamb.gov.ng, its e-Facility portal, efacility.jamb.gov.ng, and verified social media accounts for accurate information.
The reopening comes amid efforts to ensure consistency in candidates' personal records across the databases maintained by JAMB and NIMC, which are relevant to the admission process into tertiary institutions.
Candidates have been urged to take advantage of the limited window while ensuring that all corrections are accurate and properly supported, as the reopening does not guarantee that every application will be approved.
