Senator Sarafadeen Alli, Chairman Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, Amofin Beulah Adeoye, lawyer and President of the Beulah Adeoye Foundation, among others, have sympathised with the families of the children affected by a tragic stampede in Ibadan.
This is as authorities have confirmed that death toll from the incident has risen to 35.
The stampede occurred at the Islamic Grammar School during a Christmas carnival said to have been organised by the former wife of the Oni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi
Senator Alli, while reacting to the incident in a statement by his media aide, Akeem Abass on Thursday, advised the Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Engineer Seyi Makinde, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stampede, which occurred on Wednesday.
The lawmaker, representing the Oyo South Senatorial District, described the incident as unfortunate, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives.
The Senator urged the state government to investigate the matter without delay and take necessary action against anyone found guilty of causing the unfortunate loss of lives.
“I also wish the injured a quick recovery. I urge relevant authorities to provide adequate medical attention to all affected," he stressed.
On her s part, Adeoye in a statement, remarked, “It is a tragic day for us in Ibadan. It is a profound pain. I sympathize with the parents whose children were victims of this sad incident, and I commend the State Government for their swift action.
“It is my prayer that those receiving medical care at different hospitals recover speedily”.
Also Ibadan-born United Nations Ambassador, Mogaji Abudulsabur Abiola Olawore said he was sad about the tragic loss of lives during a children’s funfair at Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan.
While reacting to the sad incident, Mogaji Olawore condoled and sympathised with the parents and relations of the deceased, wishing them God’s comfort. He also wished the injured speedy and complete recovery.
Mogaji Olawore in his statement commended the State Government for swift response by mobilising a rapid response team following the breaking of the incident
“I am disheartened by the heartbreaking reports of the unfortunate tragedy that happened during a children end of the year funfare, organized by an individual in Ibadan, today, which has reportedly left at least 30 of our children dead, and many others injured," he said.
“I can only imagine the trauma of these young ones sadly witnessing such a tragic occurrence, and even their parents, who are undoubtedly worried about the safety of the children.
“I sympathise with the families of all the victims affected , Government and the people of Oyo State over the ugly incident. I do call on the government to carry out deep investigations into this incident to unravel the cause and help prevent further occurrences in the state and around the country.
“As we continue to mourn the dead kids, may God give their families the fortitude to bear the painful loss, and grant quick recovery to the injured”.
