Days after he was declared missing, the body of a 26-year-old Lagos banker, Osemudiamen Idemudia, has been discovered in a morgue in the Yaba area of the state, bearing deep machete cuts.
Idemudia, who worked in the Point-of-Sale department of a commercial bank in the Ikota area, was last seen on the evening of May 9 in the CMS area of Lagos Island.
His family launched a frantic search across hospitals and morgues after he failed to return home. A relative, Segun, confirmed on Wednesday that the family found his body on Sunday with injuries suggesting he was attacked.
“We have found Osemudiamen’s body. He was murdered. There were machete cuts on his head, face, and legs. I’m so sad,” he said.
Segun added that morgue attendants claimed the police had brought in the corpse but were unable to provide further details or identify the officers involved, deepening the family’s concerns.
The remains were buried on Tuesday.
Osemudiamen’s father, Julius, said his son had left the office with a colleague to meet a senior staff member at the bank’s CMS headquarters, but the meeting was cancelled. The two parted ways afterward, and that was the last time he was seen.
“He was supposed to head to Igando after boarding a bus at Iyana Ipaja, but we never heard from him again. This is so unlike him. We were deeply worried,” Julius recounted.
The matter was reported to the Igando Police Station, near the Akesan area where the deceased lived. The family is calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
