Tragedy struck at Wawa Cantonment in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State on Saturday when a serving soldier, Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi, allegedly shot and killed his wife before taking his own life.
The Nigerian Army confirmed the incident in a statement issued by Captain Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 22 Armoured Brigade, Ilorin, describing it as “deeply regrettable.”
According to the statement, the disturbing event occurred on October 11, 2025, sending shockwaves through the military community and leaving residents of the cantonment in disbelief.
“Lance Corporal Femi and his wife were found dead in their apartment at Block 15, Room 24, Corporals and Below Quarters, Wawa Cantonment,” the statement read.
