Otti celebrates Abia-born Kelechi Ndukwe on U.S. Navy Commodore promotion

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has congratulated Capt. Kelechi Ndukwe, an illustrious son of the state, on his promotion to Commodore in the United States Navy and appointment as Commander of Destroyer Squadron 60 and Task Force 65, based in Rota, Spain.

In a statement, Governor Otti described Ndukwe’s elevation as a historic achievement that reflects the global relevance of Abians and Nigerians in international service. He said the officer’s rise to such a high-profile command position was the reward of discipline, excellence, and resilience.

“Commodore Ndukwe’s story is one of hard work and the indomitable Abia spirit. His promotion is not just a personal triumph but a proud moment for our state, our country, and indeed Africa,” Otti noted.

Ndukwe’s new assignment places him in charge of a powerful squadron of five Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers tasked with maritime security and building strategic partnerships across Europe and Africa. His distinguished career includes previous commands of USS Halsey and USS Devastator, as well as key postings at the U.S. Navy Personnel Command.

Governor Otti urged young Abians to find inspiration in Ndukwe’s accomplishments, stressing that integrity and excellence remain the surest path to greatness. He prayed for wisdom and protection for the Commodore as he assumes his new role.

“On behalf of the people and government of Abia State, I celebrate this remarkable milestone. Commodore Ndukwe has made Abia proud, and we stand firmly behind him as he continues to excel on the world stage,” Otti said.
