Celebrated Nigerian cleric and international evangelist, Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, is dead. He passed away in Lagos at the age of 80, marking the end of a remarkable era in Nigeria’s Christian ministry.
His death was confirmed on Monday by ministry sources through posts on X (formerly Twitter), including one from Monye Morris, a member of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association.
Rev. Ukpai, founder and president of the association, was renowned for his fiery preaching, miracle crusades, and lifelong dedication to evangelism. For over five decades, he was one of the most prominent figures in Nigeria’s Pentecostal movement, drawing crowds across continents through his gospel outreaches.
Born in Abia State, Ukpai rose to national prominence in the 1970s and 1980s, when his crusades became synonymous with revival, healing, and hope. His ministry, rooted in deep faith and compassion, influenced millions of lives across Nigeria, Africa, and beyond.
He was also one of the founding fathers of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), a body that brought together leading Pentecostal and Charismatic pastors to promote unity and spiritual growth.
Rev. Ukpai’s passing has been described by many church leaders as a monumental loss to the body of Christ.
As at the time of this report, his family and ministry have yet to issue an official statement regarding his death.
